The assessment of West Africa's public spending on agriculture


11-14 September , 2013.
Monrovia, Liberia.Two hundred delegates including the Nigerian agriculture Minister and Liberian President met to discuss West Africa's record of implementing the 2003 'Maputo Declaration' which recognised the critical role of agriculture in equitable development and committed to allocating at least ten per cent of Government budgets to the sector.

The meeting was organised by ROPPA - West Africa's largest farmer advocacy organization and is attended by representatives from governments, civil society and donors.

Objectives:
  • Discussion, analysis and evaluation, including continental and regional organizations of small producers and NGO networks in Africa, results and challenges of the Civil Society Mechanism in the Committee of World Food Security. 
  • A better understanding of civil society and social movements about the issues the region faces in agricultural investments in order to better be prepared for the consultation on the IAR principles in 2013; 
  • Analysis of the draft principles for responsible agricultural investment; 
  • A document, drawn from the participating organizations, containing their contributions to the draft principles for responsible agricultural investment, distributed
