. FO-RI launch event: Farmers’ Organisations Leading Research & Innovation on agroecology

The objective of this global Action, defined and carried by FOs, is to contribute to a sustainable and profitable transformation of agriculture and food systems with a focus on 'sustainable, viable and productive agro-ecology for all'.

Specific objective of the global Action are:
  1. Valorising and strengthening local capacities and local knowledge at farm level, boosting local, frugal and social innovations with an agroecological vision
  2. Broadening the impact of agroecological innovations, including technical, social and institutional dimensions by inspiring FOs and their partners to strengthen the capacities of their members, identify new services required for agroecological innovations
  3. Increasing the research capacities of FOs with research specific methods adapted to farmers’ needs and capacities
  4. Strengthening ongoing collaborative policy processes between FOs, agricultural research and governments. Intensifying the generation and dissemination of agroecological innovations based on farmers knowledge and experiences to address the constraints limiting the sustainable and profitable transformation of agriculture and food systems

Background:

FO-RI : Farmers Organisations Leading Research & Innovation on agroecology for sustainable food systems (FO-RI)

Objectives : The main goal of this action is to drive a transition towards resilient, productive and sustainable agroecological food systems through farmer-led innovation and research.

Implementing organization: Agricord

Localisation: 16 countries in Africa (Burkina, Mali, Senegal, Cameroun, Burundi, RDC, Madagascar, Tanzania), Asia (Philippines), Pacific (Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands and Samoa), Caribbean (Haiti) and Latin America (Brazil & Uruguay).

Funding and co-funding:
  • Total budget: EUR 10.338.442
  • EU Contribution: 95% = EUR 9.828.421
  • Duration: 5 years (February 2022 to December 2026)
