Global Knowledge Dialogue: Africa

5 December 2022. Global Knowledge Dialogue 

The Global Knowledge Dialogue is a series of events the ISC is holding through the various regions of the world, starting in Africa at the World Science Forum in 2022 and then in other regions in 2023.

The full day Africa forum consisted of three blocks including:The ISC in a Member context: A discussion between the ISC leadership, ISC Fellows, and Members on the strategic and organizational objectives of the ISC for the next five years
Science in the Global context: Promoting diversity in science and science systems

The ISC in a regional context: A dialogue to co-design the global voice for science in Africa, specifically looked at key priority areas for strengthening science systems in Africa and the role of an ISC regional focal point.

Part II Science in the Global context:  Setting the scene for the dialogue, promoting diversity in science and science systems 

Alison Meston introduced the Ignite Talks. ISC Members have been invited to give a 5-minute inspirational Ignite talk that will inspire and showcase their science and how they have overcome challenges and barriers that current science systems may bring that prevent knowledge societies. 

The ignite talks celebrate storytelling from a personal perspective: 
  1. Dr Palesa Sekhejane, Human Sciences Research Council 
  2. Dr Olubukola Babalola, TWAS (The World Academy of Sciences) OWSD (Organization of Women in Science for the Developing World). 
  3. Prof Josephine Ngaira, International Geographical Union 
  4.  Mr Kevin Govender, International Astronomy Union
