Taxes on Food and Beverages high in fat, sugar, and salt

27 February 2024. Policy Fix Series: Taxes on HFSS Food and Beverages
HFSS: high in fat, sugar, and salt, by ATNI

How can taxes on HFSS foods and beverages be effectively designed to drive healthier diets?

Taxes on unhealthy products are a well-established tool for policymakers to drive healthier diets, particularly in regard to SSB taxes, which already cover more than half of the world's population. In view of the growing interest in more varied forms of HFSS taxes, this webinar seeks to explore the need for such taxes, and the key factors that ensure successful design and implementation of such policies. These include how designing taxes suited to specific contexts, and learning from successes and failures of previous taxes.
