Launch of the ‘Living Soils initiative’ in Africa

2 May 2024
. Organised by AGRA and The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).

IICA is the specialized agency for agriculture of the Inter-American System that supports the efforts of Member States to achieve agricultural development and rural well-being.

The Living Soils Initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of conservation agriculture practices by farmers. According to the FAO, these type of agricultural practices bring economical, agronomical and environmental benefits to farmers while fighting climate change as they allow the storage of carbon in the soil.

Experts agree that soils rich in humus and biodiversity represent one of the most promising solutions to tackle the climate emergency without having to compromise on productivity and the quality of production.
