The Latin American Scientific Society of Agroecology, known by its acronym SOCLA, is a regional association established in 2007, of a scientific and academic nature in agroecology in its productive, economic, social, ecological, cultural and political dimensions, committed to its territorial scaling, and whose objective is to promote agroecology as a strategy to achieve the sustainability of peoples and food systems in Latin America, based on the implementation of ecological and social principles, participatory action research and the dialogue of knowledge.
SOCLA holds a Latin American congress on agroecology every two years, in a Latin American country. The last congress was held virtually in Costa Rica in October 2022. It was organized by the University of Costa Rica (UCR) and was attended by more than 1,000 people from 27 countries, in the categories of students, SOCLA members, producers and the general public. During each congress, the SOCLA Partners Assembly is held, and among other matters, they define the host country for the next congress.
