Climate Knowledge Co-Production

8 February 2022. Co-production of knowledge is a collaborative process that brings together different
people, experiences and perspectives, to generate trust, collaboration, new knowledge and better long-term strategies. It has been used in fields such as healthcare to make services more relevant to users. Weather and climate services are increasingly using co-production principles as a way to ensure climate services address the needs and preferences of different communities, governments and other stakeholders.

In this webinar, two recently completed programs were presented: (a) Future Climate for Africa (FCFA) and (b) Weather and Climate Information Services for Africa (WISER)

They used a range of co-production approaches to focus on service delivery, disaster risk reduction and development, based on user needs. In this webinar, project partner Dr. Suzanne Carter (Climate Services Practice Area lead, SouthSouthNorth Consultants) presented six practical building blocks for undertaking co-production that can be used to co-create new processes and develop new products that are relevant and useful.

Background:
SouthSouthNorth (SouthSouthNorth | Towards climate resilience) is a South African environmental non-profit organization supporting national and regional responses to climate change through policy and knowledge interventions, partnerships and deep collaboration. More information on the WISER and FCFA projects, including newsletters, briefs and knowledge resources, is at Weather and Climate Information Services for Africa (WISER) - Met Office and Climate Change Research | Climate Science In Africa (futureclimateafrica.org)
