6-7 November. Freetown. The West Africa Agricultural Productivity Programme (WAAPP) and key stakeholders in the agriculture sector held discussions on a new draft agricultural research and extension policies.
In his presentation on the Draft Research Policy and Action Plan, the Consultant, Dr. Dunstance Spencer highlighted the objectives of the study to include:
- to produce a research policy that will serve as legal framework for providing research services to farmers and other rural populations;
- develop an Action Plan for the implementation of the research policy and to review current SLARI Strategic Plan to ensure it is properly aligned with provisions in the research policy and
- to review sub-regional agricultural research policies and strategic plans (CORAF, ECOWAS,MRU) to ensure proper alignment with the provisions in the proposed research policy.
