Hans Herren explains why it is urgent to create innovative partnerships for agricultural research in and with Africa following his presentation at the Second workshop of the Assessments/Projections/Foresights Seminar, held at CTA on 25th - 26th of February 2010. His example is www.infonet-biovision.org He admits the challenge is not so much a resistance towards multi stakeholder partnerships but its complexity to manage it and make sure communication between the different actors is effective.
Hans R. Herren (Switzerland/USA) is President of the Millennium Institute (MI) since May 2005. From 2004 to 2008 he co-chaired the International Assessment of Agricultural science and Technology for Development (IAASTD). Prior to joining MI, he was Director-General of the International Center for Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) in Nairobi, Kenya. He also served as Director of the Africa Biological Control Center of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), in Benin.
