Annual Conference Forum for the future of Agriculture

14 March 2022 Less talk, more action: turning the soil story around A pre-ForumforAg 2022 event

Soil is firmly back on the agenda as evidenced by the recent release of the EU Soil Strategy for 2030, the EU Soil Mission - A Soil Deal for Europe, and EC Communication on Sustainable Carbon Cycling. But for many it never went away. That soil can play a central role in nutrient and water cycling, sequestering carbon, strengthening our resilience to climate change and future food security, has been known for many years. It has equally been widely known that soil health has been deteriorating. Over a decade go the RISE Chairman Janez Potocnik, and then European Commissioner for the Environment, struggled to get a soil directive adopted (it was eventually rejected by a number of member states). 10 years later, soil regulation is back on the table.
  • Welcome and introduction – Dr Janez Potocnik - RISE Chairman
  • Setting the scene and moderation - Em. Prof Allan Buckwell, RISE Foundation
  • Connecting policy and grass root soil initiatives
  • What role should the food industry play?
Below is the recorded webinar organised by the RISE Foundation on March 11th 2021 in the context of the Forum for the Future of Agriculture.
