AARINENA regional meeting on the Global NARS Consortium

10 January 2024
. Regional meeting of the Association of Agricultural Research Institutions in the Near East and North Africa (AARINENA) to discuss the Global NARS Consortium (GNC) implementation plan.
  • On March 17, 2023, the heads of the six GFAR Regional Fora (AARINENA, APAARI, CACAARI, EFARD, FARA, and FORAGRO) signed the Bangkok Declaration to establish a Global NARS Consortium (GNC) and entrusted it to GFAR.
  • The GFAR Regional Fora agreed to operationalize the GNC, in consultation with relevant national, regional and global institutions, networks and organizations, undertaking to facilitate
the implementation of a roadmap by 2025, to mark the 30th year of GFAR’s existence.

  • GFAR has harnessed the potential of AI, particularly through ChatGPT, in the establishment of the Global National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS) Consortium. The initial focus centered on partners assembled by GFAR and the Regional Fora.
  • ChatGPT4’s prowess enabled GFAR to broaden its scope, identifying a broader range of potential institutions that met established criteria. This yielded a bounty of results, providing invaluable insights to refine the selection process. This methodical approach yielded a comprehensive list of potential NARS in each country.
  • The advisory group for the Global NARS Consortium (GNC) will convene with CGIAR a joint meeting on 18th of January. GNC is due to be launched in June 2024 (TBC), coinciding with a main CGIAR event.
