The Strategic Needs Fellowship aims to enable the most vulnerable States, particularly least developed countries, small island developing States and landlocked developing countries, to better address strategically important and time-sensitive issues facing them in ocean affairs and the law of the sea. Climate Story Fund

The Doc Society supports stories and impact campaigns from around the world that move humankind closer to a climate just and biodiverse future. The Climate Story Fund will support 6-8 projects with grants ranging from US$50 thousand to US$100 thousand per project. The fund is open to all mediums and will support both production and impact campaigns. Projects may come from all over the world (including localized stories serving local communities) and can be submitted by both new and established artists. Applications for the Climate Story Fund will close 07 February 2024.

Conservation Reporting Fellowship Program

The Mongabay Conservation Reporting Fellowship Program supports up to 12 fellows per year. Fellows will gain experience working with a range of editors at international news outlets, develop their environmental reporting skills, and create a portfolio of original publications to help them advance their careers in journalism. Each fellow will receive US$500 a month for the duration of the six-month fellowship (US$3,000 in total). The fellowship is open to anyone from a low- to upper-middle income tropical country. The Indianapolis Prize recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the sustainability of an animal species or group of species. The Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund makes grants to individuals, communities, and organizations for the conservation of threatened or poorly known animal, plant, and fungi species worldwide. The Fund uses the IUCN Red List as the primary guide to the conservation status of a given species, although documented variations for sub-species, distinct populations, and subpopulations will be taken into account. The ygap accelerator provides support to Kenyan leaders with solutions to poverty. Within the framework of Danish development cooperation, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls for research proposals between Denmark and researchers in partner countries. In 2024, the following countries are eligible for research applications: Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Palestine, Uganda, Somalia (incl. Somaliland), and Tanzania. Eligible research themes include energy transitions; water resource management; food and agriculture. The expected duration of research projects is up to 5 years within a maximum grant of DKK 10 million for each project. Only universities or research-based institutions registered in Denmark and with a capacity to (co-)supervise Ph.D. students are eligible to submit an application. Promoting Livelihoods in Africa

The Noel Buxton Trust makes grants of up to £10 thousand per year for up to three years for projects in Africa that develop sustainable livelihoods in community settings. Past recent projects on the theme of economic development include examples in livestock raising, aquaculture, and credit for women-led businesses. The Trust especially welcomes applications in support of initiatives that help build sustainable futures in the semi-arid areas of Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Sudan, and South Sudan. The Trust invites applications from registered civil society organizations in Africa, and from UK-based charities -- including from diaspora organizations based in the UK – for projects in the priority countries. Because International accepts applications for the Because Accelerator, a free online program for early-to-middle-stage entrepreneurs who want to take their socially innovative product to the next level. The AfOx Catalyst Grants provide seed funding to support the development of collaborative research between researchers based in African research institutions and at the University of Oxford. The Turkish Government offers scholarships to international students. The government-funded scholarship program is awarded to students who pursue full-time or short-term programs at universities in Turkey. Workshop for Social Entrepreneurs

The Global Social Impact House (GSIH) is a seven-day residential program in Costa Rica (June 2024) that provides social entrepreneurs with training they need to advance their ventures. Workshops are customized to the needs of fellows. The Center for Social Impact Strategy at the University of Pennsylvania will provide scholarships, which include accommodation and food. However, fellows are responsible for covering travel and visa-related expenses. The application deadline is 20 February 2024.

German Government

International Climate Initiative: Thematic Selection

The International Climate Initiative (IKI) funds climate projects that address pressing challenges in the areas of climate change mitigation and biodiversity conservation. The funding amount provided by the German Government ranges from €5 million to €20 million per project. Applicants for funding must apply as a consortium. Nonprofit organizations, enterprises, universities and research institutions as well as international intergovernmental organizations are eligible. The selection procedure is done in two stages. In the first stage, interested implementing organizations submit a project outline. Project outlines must be submitted by 27 February 2024.

Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program

The JJ/WBGSP Scholarship Program provides scholarships to professionals from developing countries who are applying to a master's degree program in a development-related topic. Applicants must first apply for admission to one or more of the Partner Master’s Degree Programs to be eligible for a scholarship. Scholarship recipients receive travel allowance; tuition for the graduate program; basic medical insurance; and a monthly subsistence allowance to cover all living expenses (accommodations, food, etc., including books). Recognizing the importance of science, technology, and innovation (STI), FARA collaborates with the CAADP-XP4 Consortium to establish FARA Data and Information System (FARADataInformS) as a repository for relevant STI metrics, contributing to informed decision-making in agriculture. The primary objective of this consultancy is to improve the FARA Data and Information System (FARADataInformS), a knowledge hub that provides Science and Technology Indicators (STI) metrics at the country level. This upgrade aims to enhance functionality, usability, and effectiveness in disseminating information to stakeholders. It involves integrating databases, linking data sources, and introducing artificial intelligence features to strengthen the FARA Observatory on the Science Agenda and Africa AR4D.
