13 - 15 October 2020CFS High-Level Special Event on Global Governance of Food Security and Nutrition
The CFS High-Level Special Event will have three plenary sessions, one per day:
  1. Day 1 | Taking stock of the global food security situation guided by the SOFI 2020 report and the HLPE report on Building a Global Narrative towards 2030;
  2. Day 2 | Reflecting on the impacts of COVID-19 on global food security and nutrition and efforts needed to “build back better”; and,
  3. Day 3 | Discussing the draft CFS Voluntary Guidelines on Food Systems and Nutrition and the draft CFS Policy Recommendations on Agroecological and Other Innovative Approaches, and considering their relevance to the objectives of the UN Food Systems Summit.
CFS will organize 12 virtual partners events over the three days – 4 per day. The partners events (two in the morning before plenary and two in the afternoon after plenary), will be hosted/co-hosted and organized by CFS stakeholders.   • In March and April 2020, the GIZ Agricultural Innovation Fund (AIF) published the call for its "Innovation Challenge 2020" on behalf of the BMZ. 
  • The aim of this competition is to find and promote innovative local ideas in GIZ partner countries that contribute to a more efficient and sustainable agricultural sector along the entire value chain. In the end, more than 1,000 people from Africa and Southeast Asia submitted their ideas and participated in the Innovation Challenge.

  • Europe needs to rethink its own food system in the global context. There is a need for transnational solidarity, research programming and investment to build a European Research Area that includes all of Europe, to ensure solutions for European society’s sustainable future. Thus, the event will give a platform for discussion with the wider public, a specific forum for researchers and additional fora for policy makers from Member States’ ministries and European institutions.
  • The Joint Programming Initiative on Agriculture, Food Security and Climate Change (FACCE-JPI) celebrates its ten year anniversary by engaging in a high-level science-policy discussion. The aim is threefold, i) highlighting the European societal challenges including the key research concerns, ii) exploring potential new pathways by showcasing the past scientific results, and iii) prioritisation of the science–policy discussion together with the national and European decision makers about the strategic urgencies.
