COP27 was the first UN Climate COP that put food at center stage. It had the first dedicated Food Systems Pavilion, and an Agricultural Day hosted by the COP president. (page 11)

The agriculture sector was a mitigating recurring theme with countries indicating their pursuit of more sustainable agricultural practices given the limited arable land and water in the region. The need for more technology inspired practices has also come into the light, given the disruption in logistics during the pandemic and other conflict related reasons. (page 55)

There is a strong link between water and agriculture and food security. Efficient water use in agriculture can insure that countries become more self-reliant on food production instead of importing the majority of its food. The link was highlighted and mentioned in almost all the NDCs that were reviewed. Countries have taken a step further and have developed early warning systems for floods, droughts, heatwaves and storms. (page 56)
