The Coimbra Group is an association of long-established European universities committed to creating academic and cultural ties in order to promote internationalization. Towards this end, the Coimbra Group offers scholarships to encourage short-term professional and academic experiences in Europe by applicants from Africa, Latin America, and the European Neighborhood. Deadline: 07 April 2023 Rockstart funds and empowers purpose-driven founders scaling impactful solutions by leveraging emerging technologies and new business models that improve the food supply. Rockstart invests in early-stage startups with a focus on agritech and foodtech. It seeks solutions that restore soils and oceans to become powerhouses for CO2 capture, innovations that create value from wasted food and reduce food loss, and tools that provide consumers with better access to trustworthy, nutritious food. Common Fund for Commodities

Support for Commodity Development

Deadline: 10 April 2023

The Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) provides financial and technical instruments to support projects proposed by enterprises, cooperatives and institutions. Funding is targeted mainly to for-profit organizations and social enterprises for production, value chains, and marketing across a wide group of commodities (agricultural crops, tree crops, timber, bamboo and rattan, minerals, and others). Projects need to focus on economic, social and environmental sustainability. Innovative solutions for new agritech applications, access to renewable energy, or expanding environmental services are especially welcome. All interested SMEs, enterprises, cooperatives, and governments must submit proposals no later than 10 April 2023.

 

U.S. Mission to Malawi

Self-Help Program

Deadline: 10 April 2023

The special self-help program of the U.S. Embassy to Malawi supports small, sustainable community-based initiatives that have an immediate and strong impact on the local community. The Embassy expects to support different types of projects: from development projects such as agricultural and aquacultural cooperatives to women’s empowerment and the environment. Grants typically range from US$3 thousand to US$10 thousand per project. All applicants must include a significant community contribution. The Embassy welcomes applications from Malawi-based nonprofit organizations, community based organizations, and citizens. The closing date for applications is 10 April 2023.

The Awards are open to individuals, organizations, governments, foundations, or private sector leaders from across the world. The winners will be announced at a special UN SDG Action Awards Ceremony held at UN Headquarters in New York City, USA. Applications have to be submitted before 30 April 2023.

The Women’s World Summit Foundation (WWSF) invites nominations for its annual Prize for Women’s Creativity in Rural Life. The prize honors women’s groups for exceptional creativity, courage, and commitment to improve the quality of life in rural communities. Each year, between 5-10 winners receive a cash prize of US$1,000. Nominations include biographical data about the nominee; at least two endorsement letters; and labeled photos. Self-nominations are not accepted. The deadline for nominations (submitted by postal mail only) is 30 April 2023.

The NGO Whisperer® Centre For Social Impact announces its 2023 Global Fellowship Program. The fellowship program is a six-month virtual leadership program for leaders and founders of non-governmental organizations and social enterprises worldwide. Participants receive online tailored mentorship and leadership coaching as well as online masterclasses. The CGIAR Research Initiative on National Policies and Strategies for Food, Land, and Water Systems Transformation (NPS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development cordially 

NPS is a new CGIAR initiative, co-created with national and international partners with the main objectives of building policy coherence, responding to crises, and integrating policy tools at the national and subnational levels in six countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. 

The NPS initiative is expected to make substantial research-based contributions to improve food and water security, nutrition, and livelihoods; reduce poverty and support job creation, gender equality, and social inclusion; and find solutions for climate change adaptation. NPS is led by IFPRI researchers in collaboration with other CGIAR Centers.

The conference provided evidence-based recommendations, developed by Kenyan researchers with the support of their international counterparts, to policy- and decision-makers. In addition, a matchmaking “marketplace” brought  CGIAR Research Initiatives and their Kenyan research partners together with Kenyan policymakers and decision-makers to identify current and future research demand and explore how research can better provide timely information.
