development in subject areas that include livestock husbandry, crop production,
drinking water, and environmental protection. The priority countries are India,
Tanzania, and Uganda. Applications are invited from Germany charitable

Irish Aid offers scholarships to qualified
candidates from Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America to
undertake Masters degrees at universities and colleges in Ireland. Awards are
made in the fields of development studies, rural development, biodiversity
conservation, and many other subject areas relevant to the Terra Viva Grants
Directory. The scholarship covers course fees, flights, accommodation, monthly

Each year, the Lipman Family Prize awards a
total of US$450 thousand in cash to three social impact organizations - US$250
thousand for the winning organization and US$100 thousand for each of the two

significant social and economic challenges. Past winners include projects in

Startup SG seeks global startups to compete
in the Slingshot 2021 Global Startup Competition. Entries to the competition
need to present game-changing innovation in one of four challenge categories,

The Top 100 Global Startups will pitch to a global audience and compete for
cash and grant prizes worth up to S$800 thousand. Interested participants have

The United Nations SDG Action Campaign
invites applications from emerging creators worldwide to create media as a way
to share their perspectives and advance positive action toward the UN’s
Sustainable Development Goals. “MY World 360º” stories may include one or more
of the following: mixed media projects that combine drawings, photos, audio,
video, animation and/or text; panorama or 360° photography or video;
interactive digital games, simulations, or experiences that combine 2D, 3D, or
Virtual Reality (VR) elements; photogrammetry and 3D modelling. Individuals or

transition their social change solutions into scalable social enterprises. The
Social Innovators Program seeks applications from social entrepreneurs who
would be willing to participate in various activities for the 2021/2022
fellowship year. Fellows participate in training sessions (physical and

partnership opportunities. The social ventures of the Fellows cover various

The FAO Fellows Program seeks PhD students,
researchers and professors with an advanced level of technical knowledge and
experience in sustainable agriculture, fisheries and forestry. Selected fellows

TWAS-SISSA-Lincei invites young scientists
from least developed countries to carry out collaborative research projects in

laboratories in Trieste (Italy) to carry out research work in scientific fields

The IGES, the United Nations University
Institute for Advanced Studies on Sustainability, and Japan's Ministry of the
Environment announce the latest round of sub-grants under the Satoyama
Development Mechanism. The International Partnership for the Satoyama
Initiative (IPSI) promotes the sustainable use of Socio-Ecological Production
Landscapes and Seascapes. Grants are up to US$10 thousand for field projects;
research; collaboration activities; and capacity building and outreach that
link ecosystems and community systems on a sustainable basis. Applicants must
be approved members of the IPSI at the date of submitting project proposals.

women-in-business support initiative that provides financial grants and MBA

a viable business plan. SEED Starter invites applications from teams who
develop green and inclusive business solutions to key social and environmental

SEED Starter participants consist of a team of 2-5 members. Participants will

BioInnovate Africa seeks applications for
the 2021 Bioscience Innovation Bootcamp. The bootcamp is a regional science
program for entrepreneurial scientists to develop innovative and commercially
viable biobased ideas. Participants are asked to develop innovative bioscience
research ideas, technologies and inventions for practical use in their
communities, thus fostering the development of a sustainable bioeconomy in
their region. Ideas include, but are not limited to, agroecology, food and
feed, wastewater treatment, bioenergy, among others. All proposed innovative

Program. Eco-Generation is a social networking platform offering a range of

The School Enterprise Challenge is an
international business program for schools run by the educational charity Teach
A Man To Fish. It guides and supports teachers and students to plan and set up
real, sustainable school businesses and generate real profits to help support
their school or a social cause of their choice. Thematic areas include
agriculture, drinking water and sanitation, and the environment, among others.
Prizes are between US$250 and US$5 thousand, including in-kind donations like
laptops and cameras. Please note that only pre-primary schools, primary
schools, secondary schools and technical/vocational colleges are eligible

The Africa Region of the World Bank Group
seeks application for the 2022 WBG-Africa Fellowship Program for Ph.D. Students
and recent Ph.D. graduates who are Sub-Saharan nationals. Fellows will spend a
minimum of six months at the World Bank offices in Washington, D.C. or in a
Sub-Saharan country, getting hands-on experience in development work. While
benefiting from research and innovation in multiple sectors, fellows will also
work on economic policy, technical assistance, and lending for eliminating
poverty and increasing shared prosperity. Fellows will receive consultant fees,
economy class air travel, and worker's compensation insurance. The program
invites applications from recent Ph.D. graduates, or current doctoral students,

The GIZ ‘Scaling Digital Agriculture
Innovations through Start-ups’ (SAIS) Investment Readiness Program seeks to
scale digital innovations developed by African start-ups that enable their

in-person workshops, and access to service providers. This opportunity is aimed
at start-ups (for-profit businesses) registered in Africa with scalable digital

ERC Advanced Grants support ambitious
research projects with up to € 2,5 million for the duration of 5 years. Up to
an additional €1 million can be requested in exceptional cases to cover (a)
eligible “start-up” costs, (b) the purchase of major equipment, (c) access to
large facilities, and/or (d) other major experimental and field work costs. The
call is open to researchers of any nationality who intend to conduct their

The Future Agro Challenge (FAC) is a global
competition for food and agribusiness startups. Ideas and ventures will be
selected to compete for the title of “Agripreneur of the Year.” The challenge

TRACE and Alfred Friendly provide
fellowships to strengthen investigative journalism (including reporting on
environmental crimes, climate change and others). The program provides training
seminars at the Missouri School of Journalism in Columbia (USA). The fellowship

insurance and provides a monthly stipend to cover basic living expenses.

The Atlantic Project Awards honor projects
that showcase success stories and best practices for a more sustainable

The Business Partnership Facility (BPF)
awards subsidies to support and develop private sector involvement in
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in developing countries. Projects
submitted under this call must contribute to achieving at least one clearly
identified SDG. The BPF provides non-refundable grants between €50 thousand and
€200 thousand that represent a maximum 50% of the total investment. Eligible
countries include several from Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and North
Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa (full list of eligible countries is provided in
the call). Partnerships must comprise actors from the private sector, civil
society, academia and/or the public sector, with at least one organization from

Agriculture and Food Security Program

The Global Agriculture and Food Security
Program (GAFSP) announces a call for proposals for programs and projects that
strengthen agriculture and lessen food insecurity in low-income countries. This
funding will support medium- to long-term COVID-19 response efforts for a more
sustainable, inclusive, and resilient recovery of agriculture and food systems
in a changing climate. GAFSP intends to fund 5-8 proposals for a total of at
least US$125 million. Applications (English and French) are invited from
governments in the 56 member countries of the International Development
Association in East Asia and the Pacific; South Asia; Eastern and Central
Europe; the Middle East; Africa; and Latin America. The closing date for
applications is 08 September 2021.

European Commission seeks to improve the
governance of water for agricultural, drinking and pastoral use in Madagascar.
The priorities of this call for proposals are drinking water supply, pastoral
hydraulic works, as well as water, hygiene and sanitation. The overall
indicative amount made available is €1,3 million. Eligibility extends to
non-profit organizations established in a Member State of the European Union or

The John Z. Duling Grant Program offers
funding up to US$25 thousand during 1-3 years to support exploratory work in
the early stages of untested but potentially transformative research in
arboriculture. In 2022, the program will focus on Propagation, Plant Selection,

any national or ethnic origin. Applicants have to send a brief Letter of

The Jack Kimmel International Grant Program
makes grants to researchers in arboriculture and urban forestry worldwide.

The United States Agency for International
Development (USAID) seeks applications for a five year cooperative agreement
from qualified entities to implement the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for
Soybean Value Chain Research program. The purpose of the Soybean Innovation Lab
is to develop evidence-based technologies and practices across the soy market
systems in Africa. USAID intends to provide $10 million in total USAID core
funding over a five year period. Eligibility extends to institutions of higher

The University of Essex invites
applications from African students who self fund their postgraduate studies.
The university offers a scholarship of £4 thousand to African students that
will be paid as a discount on the tuition fee. Available courses include
biological sciences, marine biology, and biochemistry, among many others.

of their place by 18 September 2021 will automatically be awarded this

Department of Biotechnology offers a fellowship program for scholars from
developing countries to pursue research towards a PhD in biotechnology. The
TWAS-DBT postgraduate fellowships are tenable at key biotechnology research

older than age 35. DBT will provide a monthly stipend to cover living costs,

Geneva Centre for Security Policy

(GCSP) offers a prize to recognize deserving individuals or organizations that
have an innovative approach to addressing international security challenges.
The prize seeks to reward the most ground-breaking contribution of the year in
the form of an initiative, invention, research publication, or organization.

The United Nations – Nippon Foundation
Fellowship provides government officials and other mid-level professionals from
developing states with advanced training on ocean affairs and the law of the
sea. The 9-month fellowship program is composed of two consecutive phases which
provide fellows with advanced and customized research and training
opportunities. Fellows will receive a stipend each month during their
fellowship. The stipend is intended to cover the cost of lodging, boarding and
other essentials such as local transport. In addition to the stipend, fellows
will be provided with a book allowance of US$100 per month. Candidates must be

The Royal Society Entrepreneur in Residence
(EiR) scheme aims to increase the knowledge and awareness in UK universities of
cutting edge industrial science, research and innovation. The scheme provides

The value of the scheme is up to a maximum of £20 thousand. The scheme is open

UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council

BBSRC seeks collaborative research projects
involving collaborative research with at least one company and one academic
partner. Case Studies from the LINKS scheme include the themes of agriculture,
sustainable energy and climate change. Applicants from industry and academia
can request a maximum of £2 million per project. Projects must be based in the
UK, however, where a suitable company cannot be found in the UK, an overseas
partnership may be possible. Applications must be submitted by 29 September

The Arturo Falaschi Fellowships Program
offers long and short-term fellowships to assist in the training of scientists
from ICGEB's member states, including many developing countries. The

(CEC) invites entrepreneurs from all around the world to submit innovative

visits of internationally renowned scientists to research institutions located
in developing countries, especially least-developed countries. Only persons who
have attained international recognition in their fields of science will be

Microsoft seeks proposals from around the
world that focus on the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to
better monitor and manage Earth’s natural systems for a more sustainable
future. Funding supports the creation and deployment of open source trained
models and algorithms in the focus core areas of climate change, biodiversity,
agriculture, and water. The grant provides software developers with Azure
compute credits worth up to US$15 thousand. Submissions are accepted on a
rolling basis. The two remaining revision deadlines for project submission in

Acumen and IKEA invite applications for a
Social Entrepreneurship accelerator program designed to support social
entrepreneurs to develop a scalable business model. The 19-week program aims to
strengthen the capacity of social enterprises in East Africa. Social

The Business Partnership Facility (BPF)
awards subsidies to support and develop private sector involvement in

The Business Partnership Facility (BPF)

The Orange Knowledge Program (OKP) makes
scholarships to mid-career professionals from selected developing countries for
short courses (duration 2 weeks to 12 months) and master's programs (duration
12-24 months). Eligible countries as well as eligible courses are listed in the

contact the education institution of the course and ask how to apply for the
scholarship. The scholarship program offers three application rounds each year.

The Deutsches Museum in Munich offers
scholarships to research scholars interested in working for 6-12 months on projects
involving the museum's collections. The museum for innovative research focuses
on scientific processes and the changing cultures of technology including
Natural Sciences, such as Astronomy, Nanotechnology and Biotechnology.
Applicants have to base their projects on the collections of the Deutsches
Museum and cooperate closely with museum staff when formulating their research
proposals. The museum offers two types of scholar-in residence stipends:
Pre-doctoral stipends of €7,500 (six months) or €15 thousand (full year); and
Post-doctoral stipends of €15 thousand (six months) or €30 thousand (full
year). There are no restrictions regarding nationality. The application

grants to registered self-help groups and community-based organizations in Guinea.
Grants are made in support of projects that improve living conditions in local
communities, including but not limited to water-related projects or income

organizations, including village associations, women’s groups and civil society

living in extreme poverty in developing countries. Thematic areas include
access to clean water and sanitation, food security, and education, among other

with a fiscal sponsor. Dining for Women has two annual grant cycles. The

Alexander von Humboldt Foundation

The Georg Forster Research Award supports
the work of accomplished researchers who are expected to continue to develop
research-based solutions to specific challenges facing transition and
developing countries. Nominees must be nationals of a developing or transition
country, excluding the People's Republic of China and India. The award amount
is €60 thousand. Additionally, award winners are invited to conduct a research
project of their own choosing in Germany in close collaboration with a
specialist colleague. To support the collaboration, the Foundation may grant
additional funding of up to €25 thousand. Nominations for the Award must be
submitted by an established academic employed by a university or research

the 2022 Grinnell Prize. The Grinnell Prize of US$50 thousand will be awarded
to individuals who show creativity, commitment, and extraordinary

administers the JRD-Tata Fellowships to support visiting scientists from the developing
world and promote South-South cooperation. The program is open to applicants
from developing countries (except India) younger than age 45, and who possess

engineering/medicine. Past participants have included several in agriculture,
biological sciences, and geo-sciences. The fellowship is for three months and
includes transportation, maintenance allowance, accommodation, and

The Incubation Program supports entrepreneurs seeking to solve some of the

Participating entrepreneurs receive 3 to 4 months of professional advice and
mentorship. Applications can be submitted on a rolling basis year-round.

Globe Award for Sustainability

outstanding projects worldwide that conserve and protect natural resources, and
that employ renewable energy. Energy Globe seeks innovative projects and smart
technologies in six categories: Earth, Fire, Water, Air, Youth, and a new
special category Sustainable Start-Up. The international winners in each of
five categories receive €2000 in prize money. Applicants can be individuals as
well as organizations (i.e., private companies and corporations, development
NGOs, community associations, government agencies, universities, and others)
that contribute to climate change and other environmental issues. The deadline

iF International Forum Design GmbH

The iF Social Impact Prize aims to publish
and support design projects that contribute to solving urgent challenges and
help to improve living conditions in the developing world. Solutions should
already be established and help to solve well known issues in any category of
the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The best projects will share a cash prize

companies and foundations (student concepts will not be accepted). There is no

The School Enterprise Challenge is an
international business program for schools run by the educational charity Teach
A Man To Fish. It guides and supports teachers and students to plan and set up
real, sustainable school businesses and generate real profits to help support
their school or a social cause of their choice. Thematic areas include

Prizes are between US$250 and US$5 thousand, including in-kind donations like
laptops and cameras. Please note that only pre-primary schools, primary
schools, secondary schools and technical/vocational colleges are eligible

development. RSA makes travel grants of up to £500 to its members to present
