Erbacher Foundation

The Erbacher Foundation supports rural development in subject areas that include livestock husbandry, crop production, drinking water, and environmental protection. The priority countries are India, Tanzania, and Uganda. Applications are invited from Germany charitable organizations involved in development cooperation. Applying organizations need to have partnerships with local NGOs. The German institution is responsible for project administration and coordination. Application deadlines are 01 February and 01 August of each year.

Irish Aid

Deadline: 1 August 2021

Irish Aid offers scholarships to qualified candidates from Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America to undertake Masters degrees at universities and colleges in Ireland. Awards are made in the fields of development studies, rural development, biodiversity conservation, and many other subject areas relevant to the Terra Viva Grants Directory. The scholarship covers course fees, flights, accommodation, monthly allowances, insurance and other incidental expenses. The deadline for applications is 01 August 2021.

Lipman Family Prize

Deadline: 1 August 2021

Each year, the Lipman Family Prize awards a total of US$450 thousand in cash to three social impact organizations - US$250 thousand for the winning organization and US$100 thousand for each of the two other honorees. The award recognizes and amplifies the work of organizations devoted to positive social impact and creating sustainable solutions to significant social and economic challenges. Past winners include projects in the field of improved sanitation, energy innovations, and micro-forestry. Eligibility extends to organizations from all around the world addressing social and economic issues. Applications close on 01 August 2021.

Startup SG

Startup SG seeks global startups to compete in the Slingshot 2021 Global Startup Competition. Entries to the competition need to present game-changing innovation in one of four challenge categories, including Sustainability (e.g., Agriculture, Clean, Food, or Green Technology). The Top 100 Global Startups will pitch to a global audience and compete for cash and grant prizes worth up to S$800 thousand. Interested participants have to register on the platform by 01 August 2021.

United Nations

The United Nations SDG Action Campaign invites applications from emerging creators worldwide to create media as a way to share their perspectives and advance positive action toward the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. “MY World 360º” stories may include one or more of the following: mixed media projects that combine drawings, photos, audio, video, animation and/or text; panorama or 360° photography or video; interactive digital games, simulations, or experiences that combine 2D, 3D, or Virtual Reality (VR) elements; photogrammetry and 3D modelling. Individuals or teams are welcome to create or co-create and share projects. Selected stories will be shared and showcased as part of United Nations events and activations. Media must be submitted by 05 August 2021.

LEAP Africa

LEAP Africa enables young changemakers to transition their social change solutions into scalable social enterprises. The Social Innovators Program seeks applications from social entrepreneurs who would be willing to participate in various activities for the 2021/2022 fellowship year. Fellows participate in training sessions (physical and online), receive mentorship, access to local & international funding and partnership opportunities. The social ventures of the Fellows cover various aspects of the society, such as Agriculture, Youth Empowerment, Education, Science & Technology, Health, Law, Human Rights, among others. Young Africans between 18 and 35 years, whose initiatives offer effective solutions to challenges in local communities are eligible to apply as fellows. The application deadline is 06 August 2021.

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations

The FAO Fellows Program seeks PhD students, researchers and professors with an advanced level of technical knowledge and experience in sustainable agriculture, fisheries and forestry. Selected fellows will be placed at regional, sub-regional, country offices or FAO headquarters where they report to an assigned supervisor. A Master’s or PhD and working knowledge of at least one FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish) is required. Applicants have to be nationals of a FAO Member Nation. World Academy of Sciences

TWAS-SISSA-Lincei invites young scientists from least developed countries to carry out collaborative research projects in Physics, Neuroscience, Mathematics, Science Outreach as well as COVID-related projects and that fall under the umbrella of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Scientists have the opportunity to visit research laboratories in Trieste (Italy) to carry out research work in scientific fields within the SISSA portfolio. TWAS will cover travel expenses and provide subsistence costs for the stay in Italy. The deadline for receipt of applications is 10 August 2021.

Institute for Global Environmental Strategies

The IGES, the United Nations University Institute for Advanced Studies on Sustainability, and Japan's Ministry of the Environment announce the latest round of sub-grants under the Satoyama Development Mechanism. The International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI) promotes the sustainable use of Socio-Ecological Production Landscapes and Seascapes. Grants are up to US$10 thousand for field projects; research; collaboration activities; and capacity building and outreach that link ecosystems and community systems on a sustainable basis. Applicants must be approved members of the IPSI at the date of submitting project proposals. The application deadline is 12 August 2021.

Access Bank W Initiative

Womenpreneur Pitch-a-ton Africa is a women-in-business support initiative that provides financial grants and MBA certifications to women entrepreneurs in Africa. The program invites female entrepreneurs from Nigeria, Ghana, Rwanda, Zambia, Sierra-Leone, Gambia, Kenya, Mozambique and Congo to apply to the next pitching competition. Eligibility extends to female business owners from all sectors. Participants have the chance to win ₦5 million (approx. US$12 thousand) in support of their business idea. Commonwealth Scholarship Commission

The Commonwealth Split-site Scholarships enable talented and motivated individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development, and are aimed at students from low- and middle-income countries who could not otherwise afford to study in the UK. Awards are tenable for a 12-month period of study at any approved UK university or higher education institution for a specific program of research. All applications must be submitted by 13 August 2021.

SEED

The SEED Starter program offers workshops to guide young entrepreneurs from early stages of ideation to the generation of a viable business plan. SEED Starter invites applications from teams who develop green and inclusive business solutions to key social and environmental challenges in Zambia. Participation in the workshops is free, although participants need to cover their transportation costs and accommodation. All SEED Starter participants consist of a team of 2-5 members. Participants will be eligible to apply for a SEED Grant (of up to €1,000) after successfully completing the workshop. The application deadline is 13 August 2021.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) seeks to improve the capacity to anticipate and mitigate the negative impacts of animal diseases, zoonosis, climate change, and disasters for healthy and productive animal populations and increased access to regional and international markets for African animals and animal products. USDA will provide technical agricultural assistance in support of national and regional technical training, research, and outreach programs. USDA will grant one cooperative agreement of US$1 million to implement the new Animal Health Strategy for Africa (AHSA). BioInnovate Africa

BioInnovate Africa seeks applications for the 2021 Bioscience Innovation Bootcamp. The bootcamp is a regional science program for entrepreneurial scientists to develop innovative and commercially viable biobased ideas. Participants are asked to develop innovative bioscience research ideas, technologies and inventions for practical use in their communities, thus fostering the development of a sustainable bioeconomy in their region. Ideas include, but are not limited to, agroecology, food and feed, wastewater treatment, bioenergy, among others. All proposed innovative bio-based ideas must have potential for commercial application. Participants have access to a 3 months acceleration program, funding, and technical assistance. Samsung Engineering Eco-Generation announces the call for applications for the 27th Regional Youth Ambassadors Program. Eco-Generation is a social networking platform offering a range of possibilities for engaging children and young adults to advance their role and commitment in environmental conservation and protection. Youth aged between 13 and 24 qualify to become an ambassador and represent Tunza Eco-Generation. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) seeks to support applied research to better understand the supply chain and market system for poultry and eggs in Tanzania. The recipient will collaborate with FAS to organize and conduct survey interviews with a representative pool of professionals. USDA will grant one cooperative agreement of US$180 thousand to conduct research and data collection. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations and institutions of higher education. New England Biolabs Foundation

The New England Biolabs Foundation makes grants to grassroots and charitable organizations to support conservation of biological diversity; ecosystem services; community food security; and marine environment. The geographical scope focuses on regions (specified on the website) in Central America; South America, and West Africa. The maximum grant size is US$10 thousand. Most grants are US$3 thousand to US$8 thousand. The deadlines for submission of LOIs are 31 March 2021 and 20 August 2021.

South Africa National Research Foundation

South Africa's National Research Foundation (NRF) and Department of Science and Technology (DST), in collaboration with the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), invite applications for the NRF-TWAS Doctoral Fellowships. The program is open to scientists from developing countries (other than South Africa) to enable them to pursue PhD research in the natural sciences such as agriculture, biology, and others. Teach A Man To Fish

The School Enterprise Challenge is an international business program for schools run by the educational charity Teach A Man To Fish. It guides and supports teachers and students to plan and set up real, sustainable school businesses and generate real profits to help support their school or a social cause of their choice. Thematic areas include agriculture, drinking water and sanitation, and the environment, among others. Prizes are between US$250 and US$5 thousand, including in-kind donations like laptops and cameras. Please note that only pre-primary schools, primary schools, secondary schools and technical/vocational colleges are eligible (universities are not eligible to apply). The deadlines for project submission are 21 May, 21 August, and 21 November 2021.

World Bank Group

The Africa Region of the World Bank Group seeks application for the 2022 WBG-Africa Fellowship Program for Ph.D. Students and recent Ph.D. graduates who are Sub-Saharan nationals. Fellows will spend a minimum of six months at the World Bank offices in Washington, D.C. or in a Sub-Saharan country, getting hands-on experience in development work. While benefiting from research and innovation in multiple sectors, fellows will also work on economic policy, technical assistance, and lending for eliminating poverty and increasing shared prosperity. Fellows will receive consultant fees, economy class air travel, and worker's compensation insurance. The program invites applications from recent Ph.D. graduates, or current doctoral students, in disciplinary fields that include agriculture, energy, and others. SEED

The program is designed to support women and youth-owned, ocean-based enterprises to sustain business growth through facilitating access to financing, business support, and technology adoption. The GIZ ‘Scaling Digital Agriculture Innovations through Start-ups’ (SAIS) Investment Readiness Program seeks to scale digital innovations developed by African start-ups that enable their users in the agricultural or food sector to increase their income. Participating start-ups will receive virtual coaching and training sessions, in-person workshops, and access to service providers. This opportunity is aimed at start-ups (for-profit businesses) registered in Africa with scalable digital solutions with a clear positive impact on income in the agricultural and/or food sector. European Commission

ERC Advanced Grants support ambitious research projects with up to € 2,5 million for the duration of 5 years. Up to an additional €1 million can be requested in exceptional cases to cover (a) eligible “start-up” costs, (b) the purchase of major equipment, (c) access to large facilities, and/or (d) other major experimental and field work costs. The call is open to researchers of any nationality who intend to conduct their research activity in any EU member state. The applicant must be an established research leader with a recognized track record of research achievements. The call will close on 31 August 2021.

The Future Agro Challenge (FAC) is a global competition for food and agribusiness startups. Ideas and ventures will be selected to compete for the title of “Agripreneur of the Year.” The challenge is open to ideas in many areas such as agroforestry, sustainability, agriculture tourism, and others. TRACE and Alfred Friendly

TRACE and Alfred Friendly provide fellowships to strengthen investigative journalism (including reporting on environmental crimes, climate change and others). The program provides training seminars at the Missouri School of Journalism in Columbia (USA). The fellowship covers all costs of program-related international and domestic travel, health insurance and provides a monthly stipend to cover basic living expenses. Candidates must be between 25-35 years old and have at least three years of experience as a journalist at a print, online or broadcast media outlet. The fellowship is open to early-career journalists from developing countries. Complete applications must be submitted by 31 August 2021.

The Heinrich Böll Foundation annually funds graduate and doctoral students across all subjects and nationalities for university studies in Germany. Preference is for applicants working in the subject areas of the Foundation such as climate and energy, resource governance, and ecology and green development (among others). The special focus regions for international students are Central and Eastern Europe; EU neighborhood countries and the CIS; the Middle East and North Africa; transition and newly industrialized countries; and conflict regions worldwide. Atlantic Strategy Group

The Atlantic Project Awards honor projects that showcase success stories and best practices for a more sustainable Atlantic ocean and Atlantic coastal communities. Projects may focus on blue economy, ocean literacy, marine renewable energy, ocean health and resilient coasts, as well as international Atlantic Ocean cooperation. Eligibility extends to professionals, entrepreneurs, organizations, research institutions, maritime clusters, associations and NGOs. Note that the Awards only showcase funded projects (in progress or completed). Project ideas are not eligible. King Baudouin Foundation

The Business Partnership Facility (BPF) awards subsidies to support and develop private sector involvement in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in developing countries. Projects submitted under this call must contribute to achieving at least one clearly identified SDG. The BPF provides non-refundable grants between €50 thousand and €200 thousand that represent a maximum 50% of the total investment. Eligible countries include several from Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa (full list of eligible countries is provided in the call). Partnerships must comprise actors from the private sector, civil society, academia and/or the public sector, with at least one organization from the for-profit private sector. The application deadline is 07 September 2021.

Global Agriculture and Food Security Program

The Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) announces a call for proposals for programs and projects that strengthen agriculture and lessen food insecurity in low-income countries. This funding will support medium- to long-term COVID-19 response efforts for a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient recovery of agriculture and food systems in a changing climate. GAFSP intends to fund 5-8 proposals for a total of at least US$125 million. Applications (English and French) are invited from governments in the 56 member countries of the International Development Association in East Asia and the Pacific; South Asia; Eastern and Central Europe; the Middle East; Africa; and Latin America. The closing date for applications is 08 September 2021.

European Commission

European Commission seeks to improve the governance of water for agricultural, drinking and pastoral use in Madagascar. The priorities of this call for proposals are drinking water supply, pastoral hydraulic works, as well as water, hygiene and sanitation. The overall indicative amount made available is €1,3 million. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations established in a Member State of the European Union or Madagascar. The application deadline is 14 September 2021.

TREE Fund

Deadline: 15 September 2021

The John Z. Duling Grant Program offers funding up to US$25 thousand during 1-3 years to support exploratory work in the early stages of untested but potentially transformative research in arboriculture. In 2022, the program will focus on Propagation, Plant Selection, Development of New Varieties, and Planting/Establishment. Applicants can be of any national or ethnic origin. Applicants have to send a brief Letter of Inquiry (LOI) before 15 September 2021.

Tree Fund

The Jack Kimmel International Grant Program makes grants to researchers in arboriculture and urban forestry worldwide. Projects of one to three years are funded to a maximum of US$10 thousand. In 2022, the grant program will be focused specifically on “Arboriculture: Theory and Practice”. To apply, applicants have to send a brief Letter of Inquiry (LOI) before 15 September 2021.

United States Agency for International Development

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks applications for a five year cooperative agreement from qualified entities to implement the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Soybean Value Chain Research program. The purpose of the Soybean Innovation Lab is to develop evidence-based technologies and practices across the soy market systems in Africa. USAID intends to provide $10 million in total USAID core funding over a five year period. Eligibility extends to institutions of higher education. Applications close 17 September 2021.

University of Essex

The University of Essex invites applications from African students who self fund their postgraduate studies. The university offers a scholarship of £4 thousand to African students that will be paid as a discount on the tuition fee. Available courses include biological sciences, marine biology, and biochemistry, among many others. Applicants that meet all the eligibility criteria and firmly accept the offer of their place by 18 September 2021 will automatically be awarded this scholarship (please read the instructions carefully).

World Academy of Sciences

In partnership with TWAS, India's Department of Biotechnology offers a fellowship program for scholars from developing countries to pursue research towards a PhD in biotechnology. The TWAS-DBT postgraduate fellowships are tenable at key biotechnology research institutions in India for a period of up to 5 years. Applicants should not be older than age 35. DBT will provide a monthly stipend to cover living costs, food, and health insurance. The application deadline is 20 September 2021.

Geneva Centre for Security Policy

The Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) offers a prize to recognize deserving individuals or organizations that have an innovative approach to addressing international security challenges. The prize seeks to reward the most ground-breaking contribution of the year in the form of an initiative, invention, research publication, or organization. All disciplines and fields are relevant (including global environmental security). The amount of the prize is CHF 10 thousand. The application deadline is 23 September 2021.

Nippon Foundation

The United Nations – Nippon Foundation Fellowship provides government officials and other mid-level professionals from developing states with advanced training on ocean affairs and the law of the sea. The 9-month fellowship program is composed of two consecutive phases which provide fellows with advanced and customized research and training opportunities. Fellows will receive a stipend each month during their fellowship. The stipend is intended to cover the cost of lodging, boarding and other essentials such as local transport. In addition to the stipend, fellows will be provided with a book allowance of US$100 per month. Candidates must be between the ages of 25 and 40. The call for applications is open until 24 September 2021.

Royal Society

The Royal Society Entrepreneur in Residence (EiR) scheme aims to increase the knowledge and awareness in UK universities of cutting edge industrial science, research and innovation. The scheme provides industrial scientists and entrepreneurs with the opportunity to spend one day a week at a university developing their project. The EiR awards are for one year. The value of the scheme is up to a maximum of £20 thousand. The scheme is open to applicants of any nationality, who are eligible to work in the UK. Applicants should have a background in science and engineering. The deadline for applications is 24 September 2021.

UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council

BBSRC seeks collaborative research projects involving collaborative research with at least one company and one academic partner. Case Studies from the LINKS scheme include the themes of agriculture, sustainable energy and climate change. Applicants from industry and academia can request a maximum of £2 million per project. Projects must be based in the UK, however, where a suitable company cannot be found in the UK, an overseas partnership may be possible. Applications must be submitted by 29 September 2021.

International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology

The Arturo Falaschi Fellowships Program offers long and short-term fellowships to assist in the training of scientists from ICGEB's member states, including many developing countries. The fellowships are for research at collaborating universities in the UK, Italy, India, and South Africa. For short-term PhD fellowships, the application deadline is 31 March and 31 September 2021. For doctoral fellowships, the application deadline is 31 March 2021. For post-doctoral fellowships, the deadlines are 31 March and 30 September 2021.

Stiftung Entrepreneurship

The Citizen Entrepreneurship Competition (CEC) invites entrepreneurs from all around the world to submit innovative answers and ideas to solve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Young entrepreneurs (age 15-35) submit their ideas and projects in the Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship category. Entrepreneurs over 30 years apply to the Adult Citizen Entrepreneurship category. The winners receive a certificate and international recognition. The deadline for entries is 30 September 2021.

World Academy of Sciences

The TWAS Visiting Expert Program supports visits of internationally renowned scientists to research institutions located in developing countries, especially least-developed countries. Only persons who have attained international recognition in their fields of science will be considered for support. Nominations of women are particularly welcomed. Applications are made jointly by the host institution in the developing country and the visiting expert. The deadline for applications is 01 October 2021.

Microsoft

Microsoft seeks proposals from around the world that focus on the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to better monitor and manage Earth’s natural systems for a more sustainable future. Funding supports the creation and deployment of open source trained models and algorithms in the focus core areas of climate change, biodiversity, agriculture, and water. The grant provides software developers with Azure compute credits worth up to US$15 thousand. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis. The two remaining revision deadlines for project submission in 2021 are 05 July and 04 October 2021.

Acumen and IKEA

Acumen and IKEA invite applications for a Social Entrepreneurship accelerator program designed to support social entrepreneurs to develop a scalable business model. The 19-week program aims to strengthen the capacity of social enterprises in East Africa. The program provides training seminars at the Missouri School of Journalism in Columbia (USA). The fellowship covers all costs of program-related international and domestic travel, health insurance and provides a monthly stipend to cover basic living expenses. Candidates must be between 25-35 years old and have at least three years of experience as a journalist at a print, online or broadcast media outlet. American Orchid Society

The Future for Nature Award aims to stimulate a new generation of nature conservation leaders. The Heinrich Böll Foundation annually funds graduate and doctoral students across all subjects and nationalities for university studies in Germany. Preference is for applicants working in the subject areas of the Foundation such as climate and energy, resource governance, and ecology and green development (among others). The special focus regions for international students are Central and Eastern Europe; EU neighborhood countries and the CIS; the Middle East and North Africa; transition and newly industrialized countries; and conflict regions worldwide. The Business Partnership Facility (BPF) awards subsidies to support and develop private sector involvement in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in developing countries. Projects submitted under this call must contribute to achieving at least one clearly identified SDG. The BPF provides non-refundable grants between €50 thousand and €200 thousand that represent a maximum 50% of the total investment. The program provides grants of US$750 to US$1,000 for marine conservation research in areas of acute need, especially for research in the developing world or for organizations with limited access to conservation funding. University of Essex

The University of Essex invites applications from African students who self fund their postgraduate studies. The university offers a scholarship of £4 thousand to African students that will be paid as a discount on the tuition fee. Available courses include biological sciences, marine biology, and biochemistry, among many others. The United Nations – Nippon Foundation Fellowship provides government officials and other mid-level professionals from developing states with advanced training on ocean affairs and the law of the sea. The 9-month fellowship program is composed of two consecutive phases which provide fellows with advanced and customized research and training opportunities. Fellows will receive a stipend each month during their fellowship. The stipend is intended to cover the cost of lodging, boarding and other essentials such as local transport. The grant provides software developers with Azure compute credits worth up to US$15 thousand. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis. Conservation Leadership Program

The Conservation Leadership Program (CLP) makes grants to advance the leadership capacity of early-career conservationists in the developing world. Grants combine research with conservation. CLP provides support to small teams of at least three individuals. Future Conservationist Awards are up to US$15 thousand. Follow-Up Awards and Leadership Awards are up to US$25 thousand and US$50 thousand, respectively. CLP explains each category of award; eligibility criteria; and details on how to apply. The Orange Knowledge Program (OKP) makes scholarships to mid-career professionals from selected developing countries for short courses (duration 2 weeks to 12 months) and master's programs (duration 12-24 months). Eligible countries as well as eligible courses are listed in the announcement. Interested applicants need to first select a course and then contact the education institution of the course and ask how to apply for the scholarship. The scholarship program offers three application rounds each year. The current application deadlines are 23 March, 29 June and 12 October 2021.

Holohil Systems Ltd

Alexander von Humboldt Foundation

The Georg Forster Research Award supports the work of accomplished researchers who are expected to continue to develop research-based solutions to specific challenges facing transition and developing countries. Nominees must be nationals of a developing or transition country, excluding the People's Republic of China and India. The award amount is €60 thousand. Additionally, award winners are invited to conduct a research project of their own choosing in Germany in close collaboration with a specialist colleague. To support the collaboration, the Foundation may grant additional funding of up to €25 thousand. India's National Science Academy administers the JRD-Tata Fellowships to support visiting scientists from the developing world and promote South-South cooperation. The program is open to applicants from developing countries (except India) younger than age 45, and who possess doctorate or masters degrees in science or equivalent degrees in engineering/medicine. Past participants have included several in agriculture, biological sciences, and geo-sciences. The fellowship is for three months and includes transportation, maintenance allowance, accommodation, and contingencies. The application deadlines are 30 April and 31 October of each year.

Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund

The Incubation Program supports entrepreneurs seeking to solve some of the world’s most urgent challenges. The School Enterprise Challenge is an international business program for schools run by the educational charity Teach A Man To Fish. Prince Claus Fund

The Fund invites applications to its new mentorship program which will focus on addressing the climate emergency. Each participant receives an award of €6.000 to work on the concept for a body of work that they outlined in their application, with an additional €4.000 being available for either a collaboration with other participants. The program provides training seminars at the Missouri School of Journalism in Columbia (USA). The Heinrich Böll Foundation annually funds graduate and doctoral students across all subjects and nationalities for university studies in Germany. Preference is for applicants working in the subject areas of the Foundation such as climate and energy, resource governance, and ecology and green development (among others). The special focus regions for international students are Central and Eastern Europe; EU neighborhood countries and the CIS; the Middle East and North Africa; transition and newly industrialized countries; and conflict regions worldwide. The Business Partnership Facility (BPF) awards subsidies to support and develop private sector involvement in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in developing countries. Projects submitted under this call must contribute to achieving at least one clearly identified SDG. Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education

The BPF provides non-refundable grants between €50 thousand and €200 thousand that represent a maximum 50% of the total investment. L'Oreal Foundation

Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education

The Orange Knowledge Program (OKP) makes scholarships to mid-career professionals from selected developing countries for short courses (duration 2 weeks to 12 months) and master's programs (duration 12-24 months). Eligible countries as well as eligible courses are listed in the announcement. Interested applicants need to first select a course and then contact the education institution of the course and ask how to apply for the scholarship. The scholarship program offers three application rounds each year. The current application deadlines are 23 March, 29 June and 12 October 2021.

Deutsches Museum in Munich

The Deutsches Museum in Munich offers scholarships to research scholars interested in working for 6-12 months on projects involving the museum's collections. The museum for innovative research focuses on scientific processes and the changing cultures of technology including Natural Sciences, such as Astronomy, Nanotechnology and Biotechnology. Applicants have to base their projects on the collections of the Deutsches Museum and cooperate closely with museum staff when formulating their research proposals. The museum offers two types of scholar-in residence stipends: Pre-doctoral stipends of €7,500 (six months) or €15 thousand (full year); and Post-doctoral stipends of €15 thousand (six months) or €30 thousand (full year). There are no restrictions regarding nationality. The application deadline is 15 October 2021.

U.S. Mission to Guinea

The U.S. Embassy in Conakry provides small grants to registered self-help groups and community-based organizations in Guinea. Grants are made in support of projects that improve living conditions in local communities, including but not limited to water-related projects or income generating activities such as agriculture and fisheries. Awards range from US$5 thousand to US$15 thousand. Eligibility extends to not-for-profit organizations, including village associations, women’s groups and civil society organizations. The closing date for applications is 15 October 2021.

Together Women Rise

Together Women Rise (formerly Dining for Women) makes grants to non-profit organizations that support women and girls living in extreme poverty in developing countries. Thematic areas include access to clean water and sanitation, food security, and education, among other themes. Applicants may request between US$35 thousand to US$50 thousand. Eligibility extends to US 5.01(c)3 corporations or international organizations with a fiscal sponsor. Dining for Women has two annual grant cycles. The deadlines for 2021 are 24 April and 24 October 2021.

Alexander von Humboldt Foundation

The Georg Forster Research Award supports the work of accomplished researchers who are expected to continue to develop research-based solutions to specific challenges facing transition and developing countries. Nominees must be nationals of a developing or transition country, excluding the People's Republic of China and India. The award amount is €60 thousand. Additionally, award winners are invited to conduct a research project of their own choosing in Germany in close collaboration with a specialist colleague. To support the collaboration, the Foundation may grant additional funding of up to €25 thousand. Nominations for the Award must be submitted by an established academic employed by a university or research institution in Germany. The closing date for nominations is 31 October 2021.

Grinnell College

Grinnell College invites nominations for the 2022 Grinnell Prize. The Grinnell Prize of US$50 thousand will be awarded to individuals who show creativity, commitment, and extraordinary accomplishment in effecting positive social change. Past nominations have spanned a diversity of social issues related to agriculture and hunger relief, conservation and environment, and many other thematic areas. Nominees may be nationals of any country who have earned a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) between 2006 and 2022. Nominees must be nominated by a third party. Indian National Academy of Sciences

India's National Science Academy administers the JRD-Tata Fellowships to support visiting scientists from the developing world and promote South-South cooperation. The program is open to applicants from developing countries (except India) younger than age 45, and who possess doctorate or masters degrees in science or equivalent degrees in engineering/medicine. Past participants have included several in agriculture, biological sciences, and geo-sciences. The fellowship is for three months and includes transportation, maintenance allowance, accommodation, and contingencies. The application deadlines are 30 April and 31 October of each year.

Lawrence Foundation

The Lawrence Foundation makes grants to U.S. nonprofit organizations for projects in environment, human services, and other themes. There is no restriction on the geographical area where grant activities can be implemented. The average grant size is between US$5 thousand and US$10 thousand. Bridges for Enterprise

Bridges for Enterprise (BfE) works with social impact startups from Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. The Incubation Program supports entrepreneurs seeking to solve some of the world’s most urgent challenges. The program is open to for-profit and non-profit social enterprises and startups at the pre-seed or seed stage. Participating entrepreneurs receive 3 to 4 months of professional advice and mentorship. Applications can be submitted on a rolling basis year-round. However, social entrepreneurs must submit their application before specific deadlines to be considered for specific cohorts: 01 May (Autumn Cohort) and 01 November (Spring Cohort).

Schlumberger Foundation's “Faculty of the Future” supports women in developing and emerging economies to pursue PhD and postdoctoral studies at the international level. Grants are in the physical sciences, engineering, and related fields -- including past grants in subjects such as ecology and environment. Grants can be up to US$50 thousand per year for PhD courses and a maximum of US$40 thousand for post-doc research programs. The deadline to submit new applications is 05 November 2021.

Energy Globe Award for Sustainability

The Energy Globe Award recognizes outstanding projects worldwide that conserve and protect natural resources, and that employ renewable energy. Energy Globe seeks innovative projects and smart technologies in six categories: Earth, Fire, Water, Air, Youth, and a new special category Sustainable Start-Up. The international winners in each of five categories receive €2000 in prize money. Applicants can be individuals as well as organizations (i.e., private companies and corporations, development NGOs, community associations, government agencies, universities, and others) that contribute to climate change and other environmental issues. The deadline for applications is 15 November 2021.

iF International Forum Design GmbH

The iF Social Impact Prize aims to publish and support design projects that contribute to solving urgent challenges and help to improve living conditions in the developing world. Solutions should already be established and help to solve well known issues in any category of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The best projects will share a cash prize of €50 thousand in total. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations, companies and foundations (student concepts will not be accepted). There is no deadline, projects can be submitted on a continuous basis. The winners will be decided twice per year, after 27 May and 18 November 2021.

Teach A Man To Fish

The School Enterprise Challenge is an international business program for schools run by the educational charity Teach A Man To Fish. It guides and supports teachers and students to plan and set up real, sustainable school businesses and generate real profits to help support their school or a social cause of their choice. Thematic areas include agriculture, drinking water and sanitation, and the environment, among others. Prizes are between US$250 and US$5 thousand, including in-kind donations like laptops and cameras. Please note that only pre-primary schools, primary schools, secondary schools and technical/vocational colleges are eligible (universities are not eligible to apply). The deadlines for project submission are 21 May, 21 August, and 21 November 2021.

Beit Trust

Deadline: 30 November 2021

The Beit Trust supports projects for health, education, welfare, and environment in Malawi and Zambia (Note: Due to uncertainties within Zimbabwe, funds for the construction of major projects are not being committed at this time). Themes include wildlife conservation. Additionally, the Trust’s interests in community welfare include drinking water and irrigation water. Grants do not normally exceed £50 thousand. Applications should be submitted by the end of May and November each year.

Regional Studies Association

The Regional Studies Association (RSA) covers issues in the fields of climate change, energy, migration, and economic development. RSA makes travel grants of up to £500 to its members to present their work, network and participate in non-RSA events. (Note: non-members are encouraged to apply and join RSA). Grants have no geographical limitation. Applications are accepted twice a year. The deadlines for travel grant applications are 29 May and 30 November 2021.

Environmental Research and Education Foundation

The Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF) offers research grants on the management of solid wastes. Topics include waste minimization; recycling; waste conversion to energy, biofuels, chemicals, and other products; waste diversion to other uses; and landfills. There are no geographical restrictions on institutions that can apply. Previously awarded grants have ranged from US$15 thousand to over US$500 thousand (with an average grant amount of US$160 thousand). The deadlines for pre-proposals are 01 May and 01 December 2021.

GroFin

MDPI

MDPI, a publisher of peer-reviewed, open access journals, invites nominations for the Remote Sensing 2022 Young Investigator Award. The winner will receive CHF2000. This prize will be given to one young investigator in recognition of their contribution to the advancement of remote sensing science or applications. Candidates must be under 35 years and be nominated by senior researchers. The deadline for nominations is 31 December 2021.
