The Dalai Lama Fellowship offers emerging leaders from all around the world mentorship and coaching to design and implement their own original field project addressing a global challenge. Project areas include environmental sustainability, among others. The fellowship does not offer funding for projects, instead it offers coaching and a global community. This program is open to next-generation leaders (20-35 years old). Deadline for applications is 01 December 2022.

Rockefeller Foundation & Acumen

Acumen, with funding from the Rockefeller Foundation, invites students from all around the world to submit innovative solutions to tackle the greatest food systems challenges. The Rockefeller Foundation-Acumen Food Systems Fellowship is an intensive, one-year leadership development program for food systems leaders who are creating more inclusive, nourishing and regenerative food systems. Eligibility extends to individuals who demonstrate experience in building inclusive food systems. The final application deadline for the 2022 cohort for the Food Systems Fellowship is 01 December 2022.

Marine Stewardship Council

Deadline: 5 December 2022

The Marine Stewardship Council invites fisheries, scientists, NGOs and postgraduates to apply for grants from the Ocean Stewardship Fund. The fund supports best practices in sustainable fishing with the aim to increase the number of sustainable fisheries around the world. Grants are also available to support small-scale fisheries and fisheries in the developing world. Furthermore, the Student Research Grant awards funding to support postgraduate students who are carrying out research with fisheries engaged or working towards the MSC program. Awards of between £5 thousand to £50 thousand are available across five different strands. The application deadline is 05 December 2022.

The ygap accelerator provides support to Kenyan leaders with solutions to poverty. Entrepreneurs and startups with project ideas and solutions for their local community are invited to apply for the training program. The program offers a three-day accelerator followed by twelve months of tailored support including business skills development, strategy insights, mentor support, and more. Participants will gain access to professionals (designers, lawyers, coaches, etc.) and have the opportunity to apply for small grants. Eligibility extends to social entrepreneurs operating in Kenya, who are dedicated to creating a positive change in the lives of people living in poverty. Applications close 05 December 2022.

The Commonwealth Secretary-General

Deadline: 8 December 2022

The Commonwealth Secretary-General and the Commonwealth Youth Climate Change Network (CYCN) launch a global competition to inspire young people to take action on oceans. The Youth Action Challenge will award three young activists with £1,000 each for their work towards the realization of conserving and sustainably using oceans, seas and marine resources. Applicants must be aged 18-30, and come from a Commonwealth country, to enter. The competition closes on 08 December 2022.

SVG Ventures

Deadline: 11 December 2022

The Climate-Smart Agriculture Challenge seeks to identify and support innovators who are driving the global transformation to climate-smart agriculture practices. Winners will receive up to US$100 thousand in funding to develop a proof of concept and will be considered for investment from Shell Ventures. The challenge is open to start-up and scale-up businesses located around the world. Applications close on 11 December 2022.

YALI Regional Leadership Center

The YALI West Africa Emerging Leaders Program provides business and entrepreneurship training to young West African leaders from Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Gambia and Burkina Faso. The program will teach young leaders about modern leadership through coursework (in-person or online), a mentorship program, internship or community service, and report writing. World Academy of Sciences

In collaboration with UNESCO, TWAS institutes a Joint Associateship Scheme to enable competent researchers from developing countries to visit research centers regularly. Selected associates are appointed for three years during which they can visit one of 300 participating centers twice for research collaboration. TWAS provides travel support and a contribution towards subsistence costs up to US$300. Living expenses are covered by the host centers. The Associateship Scheme is ongoing. World Academy of Sciences

TWAS funds selected TWAS members to assist with building research capacity in the least-developed countries (LDCs). During a period of five years, each funded professor will be expected to make three visits to a host institution in a partner LDC, for a minimum stay of one month each visit. TWAS will provide travel support, while living expenses are covered by the host institution. Requests need to be submitted by research groups and scientific institutions in the LDCs. The application deadline is 12 December 2022.

Commonwealth Scholarship Commission

With funding by the UK's Department for International Development, the Commonwealth Shared Scholarships are available to citizens of Commonwealth countries for masters studies at UK universities, usually for one year. The participating academic programs include several in subject areas such as environmental science and management, agroforestry, livestock management, remote sensing, disaster management, wetlands science, etc. The CSC lists the participating universities and their eligible courses. Potential applicants must check with the relevant UK university regarding their admission requirements and guidelines for applying. The deadline for scholarship applications is 13 December 2022.

Erasmus Mundus Programme

The Master Degree Mediterranean Forestry and Natural Resources Management (MEDfOR) is a two-year international program in the field of Forestry and Sustainability. The MEDfOR Consortium includes seven European universities with expertise in Mediterranean forestry. The master course is open to EU and non-EU students. Scholarships to cover participation costs, travel costs and a monthly subsistence allowance will be offered by different funding agencies according to specific eligibility requirements. The program is open to candidates from all over the world, who have a bachelor degree in Biological Sciences, Environmental and Earth Sciences, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry or similar areas. iF International Forum Design GmbH

TechGirls is an international summer exchange program designed to empower and inspire young women from around the world to pursue careers in science and technology. The Young SDG Innovators Program is an accelerator program for future business leaders and changemakers to develop and drive innovative SDG solutions through new technologies, initiatives, and business models. Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research

The CGIAR Food Systems Accelerator aims to support agribusiness with a climate-smart innovation that tackles food insecurity and increases resilience in the East and Southern Africa region. The four priority innovation themes are: Mechanization and irrigation; Conservation agriculture; Nutrition-sensitive climate smart agriculture; and Agricultural Risk Management. The program provides technical assistance and access to investors and corporate partners. Four companies will receive US$20 thousand. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund

The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) seeks to empower communities and civil society in Madagascar and the Indian Ocean Islands to implement actions to improve the resilience of species, ecosystems and human populations to climate changes. CEPF intends to make small grants of more than US$50 thousand in support of conservation actions, including agroforestry, “climate smart agriculture,” eradication of invasive alien species, and landscape restoration. Eligibility for grants extends to NGOs, community groups, private enterprises, universities, and other civil society applicants. The closing date for letters of inquiry is 23 December 2022.

The Alfred Wegner Institute hosts the Nippon Foundation-POGO Centre of Excellence. The program provides training and career development in observational oceanography, using facilities at Helgoland and Sylt in the North Sea. Preference is given to activities in lower-?middle-income countries with direct involvement of collaborating institutions or agencies from said countries. There are four application deadlines per year: 31 March, 30 June, 31 October and 31 December.

German Academic Exchange Service

The DAAD offers scholarships to qualified individuals from eligible developing countries for post-graduate studies at German universities in development-related subjects. The program (EPOS) is open to individuals who have completed their previous academic degrees no longer than six years previously; who have at least two years of professional experience; and who are nationals of countries receiving official development assistance (DAC list of the OECD). The available courses range across water resources; renewable energy; land management and tenure; agricultural sciences; forest sciences; ecology; nature conservation; environmental governance; and many others. Most scholarship deadlines for the 2023-2024 intake fall between August 2022 through December 2022, varying by courses (check carefully).

Giving Joy

Giving Joy makes micro-grants to women who seek to establish or improve their businesses for the benefit of their communities. Applicants can propose activities in any field, trade, occupation, or craft (e.g., agriculture, fisheries, energy, WASH, etc.). Proposed grant activities must have a social benefit to the community. Grants range from US$250 to US$500. Grants support women entrepreneurs worldwide. Giving Joy offers two grant cycles per year with current application deadlines 30 June and 31 December 2022.

GroFin

GroFin funds small and growing businesses in Africa. Grants support start-ups and growing businesses in agriculture, fisheries, energy and water sectors. Small business owners can apply for financing between US$100 thousand and US$1.5 million. Businesses that operate in Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Egypt, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Uganda are eligible to apply. The application deadline is 31 December 2022.

StartupXs invites applications for the 2023 ChangeMakers Seed Funding competition. The competition is open to startups and social enterprises who want to change their community with their innovative business idea. The winner will receive a US$1500 seed grant. Participation is open to any individual (18 and 35 years) or organization in any country. Priority is given to early-stage startups working on an innovative product or idea. The deadline for the submission is 31 December 2022.

United People Global

The United People Global (UPG) Sustainability Leadership training program offers young leaders from all over the world the opportunity to participate in an immersive 1-week experience on an island in the USA. UPG seeks young people (18-35 years) who want to take positive action that helps the world tackle a sustainability challenge to achieve any of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 500 young leaders will be selected to participate in an online program and receive a certification after successful completion of the online training. 60 participants will have the chance to attend the complimentary 1-week training in the USA (all costs of the program will be covered). The British Herpetological Society (BHS) offers small grants to current students in support of herpetological fieldwork and other research costs. Projects which benefit species of conservation concern are likely to be favored. The scheme is open to students and research projects in any country, but applications from countries where funds are relatively easy to obtain may be at a disadvantage. Applicants do not have to be BHS members, though this is encouraged. Small grants are up to £300. The application deadline is 01 December 2022.

The full-time masters program during one year is aimed at graduates of leadership potential with at least three to five years of experience relevant to biodiversity conservation. The Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF) offers research grants on the management of solid wastes. Topics include waste minimization; recycling; waste conversion to energy, biofuels, chemicals, and other products; waste diversion to other uses; and landfills. There are no geographical restrictions on institutions that can apply. Previously awarded grants have ranged from US$15 thousand to over US$500 thousand (with an average grant amount of US$160 thousand). The deadlines for pre-proposals are 01 May and 01 December 2022.

Japan Fund for Global Environment

The Japan Fund for Global Environment makes grants to non-profit organizations in Japan and developing countries for field projects in environmental conservation. Grants are for grass-roots projects and range from 500 thousand to 3 million JPY. Each non-Japanese applicant needs to have an agent in Japan to communicate and apply in Japanese language on behalf of the applicant. The application deadline is 01 December 2022.

Turtle Conservation Fund

Deadline: 1 December 2022

The Turtle Conservation Fund (TCF) makes grants to organizations and individuals worldwide for conservation and research of endangered and critically endangered tortoises and freshwater turtles. TCF lists priority species. Most regular grants are US$2 thousand to US$5 thousand per project. The Fund also makes seed grants of US$1 thousand or less. Application deadlines for both programs are 01 June and 01 December of each year.

Morris Animal Foundation

The Morris Animal Foundation supports research on animal health and welfare, including wildlife/exotics. Global Biodiversity Information Facility

GBIF and the open-access Journal of Limnology announce a call for researchers to submit data papers about species that inhabit the world's inland waters. To assist efforts to fill gaps in primary biodiversity data on freshwater species, GBIF will sponsor the article processing charges (normally €624) for the first sixteen manuscripts accepted by the Journal.
