Empower Climate-Resilient Smallholder Agriculture by Investing in African Research and Innovation

UN Foundation (2023) Empower Climate-Resilient Smallholder Agriculture by Investing in African Research and Innovation #28 p.

As public and private sector leaders consider strategies for recovery and regeneration, 15 African innovators and researchers will offer them a new approach for empowering resilient small-scale agriculture.

Since March of this year, we have worked with our colleagues to develop fresh investment strategies for smallholder-centered research and innovation. Representing producers’ associations, agri-companies, NGOs, and national, regional, and international research centers, our group has direct experience helping small-scale producers and entrepreneurs navigate chronic production and market risks.

Publicly released at the AGRF Summit, key messages from the brief will be shared through a webinar on September 13. This publication emerges from a partnership among the UN Foundation and 15 African researchers and innovators

13/09/2023 @3:00pm - 6 pm CEST Global Launch policy brief: Empower climate-resilient smallholder agriculture by investing in African research and innovation

In the face of climate extremes and economic shocks, resilience-oriented innovation is essential to sustain and increase productivity and to ensure food security in small-scale agri-food systems. With investments in agricultural research and adaptation well below estimated needs, Africa is at a disadvantage in the fight against climate challenges.

This webinar is the global launch of a new policy brief titled ‘Empower climate-resilient smallholder agriculture by investing in African research and innovation’. Drawing on the collective insights of fifteen African researchers and innovators, this brief recommends three strategies for more effectively investing in smallholder-centered research and innovation that advance climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture.
