Erik Davies (2022) Seeds of Change Shifting Diets & Soil Carbon Sequestration Markets: How Climate Change is Driving New Opportunities and Risks in Agriculture - SMMARY # 5 p.
This report examines the impacts of climate change on the agriculture sector, and how shifts in consumer diets and the adoption of regenerative agricultural practices can create new opportunities and risks for farmers and businesses.
The report highlights the potential for soil carbon sequestration to mitigate climate change and outlines the emerging market for carbon credits linked to these practices. It also discusses the challenges and opportunities of transitioning to plant-based diets and the role of policy in driving these changes. Overall, the report provides insights into the complex and interconnected challenges and opportunities facing the agricultural sector in the face of climate change.
Both techniques, a combination of foresight and backcasting is important moving forward. Backcasting takes an idealized future state like Net Zero, then moves backwards to identify what policies changes and activities need to be undertaken in order to realize this future state. The Seeds of Change Report I just released does the reverse of this. It projects trends into the future and then identifies potential consequences of that future state. Its incredibly important to combine creativity and stakeholder consultation with research in foresight. Just keep in mind the research for foresight heavily relies heavily on social media and recent news coverage to identify emerging trends. It focuses less on journals and standard research sources.
